It’s a beautiful, warm late spring morning and I’ve just sat down on one of the small wooden benches placed at a few of the stops along the San Bernardino National Forest’s Woodland Trail in the Big Bear area.
The trail is an easy hike, a one and a half mile loop that takes you into the forest, with a gentle 300-foot elevation gain that gives you some wonderful views of Big Bear Lake and some of the ski runs above it. Around me are towering pines, oaks, flowering bushes and a few wildflowers.
